02 / THE CHALLENGE

The challenge.

The campus fiber backbone upgrade required linking 22 occupied academic buildings via a high-capacity 144-strand single-mode ring. The environment imposed strict term-time noise limits, access restrictions, and minimal operational disruption windows for the faculty and students.

The existing legacy tunnel infrastructure featured heavily congested cable trays, complicating the placement of new backbone lines. Building cutovers had to be executed sequentially and were limited to short, rigidly approved outage windows that could not be exceeded.

03 / OUR APPROACH

Our approach.

ASI conducted a comprehensive route survey and performed necessary tray remediation before initiating any cable placement. The physical installation prioritized safety and code compliance, utilizing sealed wall penetrations and certified firestopping across all tunnel and building boundaries.

To mitigate cutover risks, the work was sequenced around the academic calendar. Splicing was staged so that each building's entrance facility was fully terminated and pre-tested before its designated cutover window officially opened.

04 / THE RESULT

The result.

All 22 buildings were successfully cut over on a building-by-building basis, without a single scheduled outage exceeding its approved duration. The newly installed 144-strand backbone delivered a massive capacity upgrade to the institutional network.

Full OTDR trace and loss-budget packages were submitted for each individual building span, proving network integrity. Final as-builts and complete strand assignment schedules were handed over to the campus facilities team as a single, organized record set.
